Dear Sir/Madam; Employment
Application I am interested in the position advertised by your Company. I am a
Finance and Technology Management professional with a wealth of experience in
Management, Strategic Planning, Analytics, FP&A (Financial Planning &
Analysis), Financial Modeling, Business Development, Product Management,
Project Management, Technology Strategy, Marketing and Technical Sales with
major Telecommunications, Aerospace and Internet Information Provider companies
including, FRANCE TELECOM in Paris, BOSCH TELECOM in Germany, LUCENT
TECHNOLOGIES, UNITED TECHNOLOGIES and GOOGLE in the United States. ·
I held various positions at these companies including: Offer
Manager, 3G UMTS Wireless and Manager, Product Realization Strategy at
Lucent, Project Manager/Analyst at United Technologies, Research Engineer in
Telecom Network Economics at France Telecom, Product Manager at Bosch Telecom
and Finance Manager in FP&A at Google. I hold a Master’s degree in Engineering & Management of the MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
(MIT). This so-called Technical MBA, organized under the MIT System
Design and Management (SDM) Fellows program is an interdisciplinary program
jointly offered by the MIT Sloan School of Management and the School of
Engineering, and designed specifically to go beyond the traditional MBA,
enabling technical professionals to acquire Management skills to tackle the
complexities of competing in global markets while leading their organizations
to success by applying state-of-the-art skills in Systems Thinking and
Innovation. I also hold a Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering from MIT and a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondis (Master’s degree) in
Physics of the UNIVERSITE LOUIS
PASTEUR, STRASBOURG, FRANCE. ·
During the course of my career I have developed
quantitative models for the Financial Analysis of several Business Case
scenarios: o
At FRANCE TELECOM, as a Research Engineer in
Telecommunications Network Economics, I developed Financial Models for the purposes
of Strategic planning, Technology Analysis, TCO (Total Cost of Ownership),
& ROI Analysis including the estimation of CAPEX and OPEX and Cost
Optimization of Broadband Network Architectures to enable the Company
understand the Economics of the deployment of fiber optics in their Access
Network and to develop a strategic plan to introduce fiber optics into their
Access Network to deliver high-speed broadband services to their customers -
cost-effectively. o
At Lucent and Bosch Telecom, I developed Models for
P&L forecast and strategic planning to help top Management at those
companies assess the profitability of its products, and therefore to adopt
the best strategies for New Product Development; & Marketing. o
I developed Models used to forecast the demand growth of
wireless Base Station infrastructure and fiber optic cables based on network
system architecture, marketing, traffic morphologies, demographic and
bandwidth /capacity requirement. ·
At Google, as Finance Manager in FP&A: o
I developed models for the cost analysis of the Company’s
fiber optics network, enabling the forecast of network capacity growth trends
and associated costs. I also developed quantitative and qualitative analysis
of the business plan for the Company’s network and identified and analyzed
Risk factors in the business plan assumptions and developed risk mitigation
plans. I worked with PMO (Project Management Office) to quantify the cost of
several projects to build, upgrade and/or add capacity to GTR (Google
Transport Records) – Fiber optics links between two points, cities, etc. and
analyzed the cost of leasing versus owning capacity and networks. o
I developed a Cost-Compression Analysis to enable Company
take advantage of falling electronics cost over time and consequently to
reduce network cost. o
I developed analysis for network failures to enable
Company understand network failure patterns and quantify the cost of such
failures as well as to develop strategies to mitigate the cost impact of such
failures. My
MIT education has indeed prepared me for even greater challenges: In addition
to the above transferable skills, I would bring the MIT perspective on
cutting-edge techniques and approaches to problem-solving & Innovation in
diverse areas: · Leadership
& Lean Enterprise Concepts – to help you increase Profitability via
improved Efficiency by adopting the best practices for People Management,
Quality, Productivity, & Process Improvement in both hierarchically and
matrix structured organizations · Disruptive
Technologies – to help you stay ahead of the competition by identifying
emerging technologies that could have significant impact or disruptive effect
on your industry or business model, enabling you to react appropriately by
adopting correct Technology Strategies · Operations
Strategy - to help you increase Profitability via Operational Excellence by
making informed decisions in Product development and production strategies
with respect to Make versus Buy, Innovation versus Vertical Integration /
Merger & Acquisition & Supplier Management · Risk
Management - to enable Top Management gain better Insights into Business
Models/Plans and mitigate risks via Quantitative analysis · Perspective
of my work at MIT on Make versus Buy, Innovation versus Merger &
Acquisition (Vertical Integration), Joint Ventures (JVs), Supply Chain and
Supplier Management. I hope to apply these skills as well as my
Quantitative and Analytical skills in the position you advertised. Attached
for your consideration, please find my chronological Resume. I look forward
to an opportunity of an interview with you. Yours Sincerely, Charles Ufongene CHARLES UFONGENE Ph. 860-810-7167 E-mail: charlesufongene@sbcglobal.net SUMMARY of SKILLS MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP:-, Business

Telecommunications Network Economics Job Function: Business Case Development
Financial Modeling, Strategic planning, Technology Analysis, TCO (Total Cost
of Ownership), & ROI Analysis Main Achievements ·
Developed a
Network Model for the purpose of the economic analysis and network cost
optimization of Broadband Optical/Wireless Access network architectures. This
model was the basis of the implementation of an optimization algorithm I
employed for the Estimation of Installed First Costs of FTTC/FTTH network
architectures at France Telecom, and enabled us to determine the optimal
splitter ratios of couplers/termination capacities of ONUs (Optical Network
Units) to be deployed in order to minimize network cost. ·
This Model
culminated in a software that can be used for the estimation of detailed
End-to-end Network costs in Greenfield and Network Upgrade deployment
scenarios - including Outside Plant (civil engineering, labor and material)
and systems costs as well as generate Bill of Material (BOM) for FTTx
architectures to a high degree of accuracy -- in a fraction of the time and
cost it takes traditional methods which require costly and time-consuming
detailed OSP network design using maps/GIS. 1 |
